I have several working theories regarding this problem.
One possibility is individuals, especially teenagers, expect instant gratification for every single thing!
* Someone writes a post on Facebook – hopeful
people “like” the comment
* Someone posts a photo – eagerly waiting to see how
many people comment
* Someone sends an email – how long before
impatience sets in waiting for a response
* Someone sends a text – then sends another
because the receiver was too slow to respond
* Watching TV – no time for commercials so you
upgrade to DVR.
Entitled people think “I’ve been told how amazing/talented/smart/pretty I am my whole life without having to try hard/be motivated/put forth effort/experience failure.” They believe the other person is wrong. They dismiss the concept of working hard to receive accolades; they expect the accolades without the personal effort.
Over time, this creates a society full of entitled, lazy people.
Non-Entitled individuals: working, school, homework, projects, hobbies, volunteering, errands, cleaning, cooking, helping others, re-doing things for accuracy, budgeting
Entitled: waiting for fulfillment from others or bored
I’m concerned about individuals who often complain of being bored. What are they doing with their time? They need to learn how they can gain satisfaction and enjoyment from within instead of from external sources. Being able to appreciate accomplishing personal goals, even if the process is cumbersome or non-linear, is a wonderful part of living a healthy, happy life!
